Rainbow Quilters of Rotorua celebrated 30 years of creating warmth and comfort, for family, and for friends, and for strangers we will never know.
Part of the celebration was a challenge to make a 30cm x 30cm artwork that reflected the Pearl (30 year Anniversary). Creating these pieces, reflects the skill of each maker, the technical ingenuity of the maker, and the magic of an individual’s imagination. I enjoyed the process so much, I made three different “pearls”.
Rainbow Quilters meet twice a month in Rotorua, to sew and chat, and exchange ideas. Information can be found on their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/181844985351307/?ref=bookmarks
Black Pearl was based on an image of an oyster shell with a black pearl by Jessica Winder, England, and used with permission. https://natureinfocus.blog
I enjoyed creating these textile pieces. I feel they are a celebration of our contemporary lives and our living culture . By making each item by hand, it’s not mass produced, there is only one. This makes it special in a culture where everything looks the same, and is mass produced. Each item I make is about me, what I am feeling, and what I am thinking, and how we are all connected to the universe.
